Nursery Curriculum

WELCOME TO NURSERY

For boys and girls, aged two to three.

This is the beginning of a very special journey at Sevenoaks Prep.

Our Nursery is set within inviting, vibrant, well-resourced rooms which lead out into a secure outdoor garden area.  Children are free to explore the environment and develop their independence and interest through play.

The caring and well-trained teachers and practitioners enhance the curriculum and develop the children’s enthusiasm for learning by harnessing their imaginations.  The voyage of discovery is supported by additional experiences which are available to the children throughout the week, these include; Mini Movers, CycleMe.Tots, Playball and Outdoor Adventures.

We require a minimum attendance of 3 morning sessions, from 8.30am until 12.15pm.  The morning sessions finish with every child enjoying a hot and healthy cooked lunch together in our school hall.  During lunch the children are encouraged to make choices, to try new foods and begin to use appropriate cutlery independently whilst sharing their experience with their friends and staff.

A full day finishes at 3.00pm.  In addition to the school day, we offer wraparound care so children can be in school from 7.30am in breakfast club until 6.00pm (subject to approval).

Our priorities within Nursery are to enable a positive and happy environment, developing the fundamental skills for learning through promoting the Prime Areas of the Early Years Curriculum;

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development.

Nursery fosters the growth mindset approach which follows through the school using the Characteristics of Effective Learning, by recognising and celebrating achievements and progress no matter how small.

Nursery staff pride themselves on building close relationships with families and welcoming them to The Prep, establishing The Way of Life and promoting the ethos of the school.  Our open door policy and communication with parents supports the transition and settling process.

Every child has an online journal which is updated during each session allowing parents to play a large role in their child’s learning journey.

“We encourage each child to challenge themselves, motivated by adults and each other. ”
