From January 2020, we are delighted to be including Forest School sessions in our Nursery curriculum. Children may join the sessions for a maximum of 2 mornings a week for a fully immersive Forest School and outdoor learning experience in a child-friendly, natural woodland environment in the school grounds (set in Knole Park). The Forest School sessions are run by our Forest School accredited staff and include a learning program around our woodlands, nature trail and with visits to the school allotment. All activities offered embed the Early Years Curriculum framework and promote child-led exploration in a natural environment, complementing the Nursery classroom setting. Activities at Forest School are child-led and freely chosen.
Possible activities include: bug hunting, weaving, hapazome, sawing, playing in the mud kitchen, setting up dens, bird watching and craft, making bird feeders, natural craft such as stick wands, leaf crowns, making our own natural paint with blackberries/charcoal or mud, investigating animal tracks or leaf shapes, finding fairies or imaginative play, learning how to lay a fire, watching a lit fire (safely from our fire circle), and/or enjoying a sing-song to our resident robin who comes down to see us and join in.
Please note, all children taking park in Forest School sessions must also enrol for at least two mornings a week in the classroom.
