Admissions

Welcome to the Admissions Department

Choosing the right school for your family can be a daunting decision.  We are here to support you through the whole process and guide you to the right choice for you and your children.

Please take time to look through our website and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for a glimpse of life at Sevenoaks Prep.  We hope you will see what makes the school so special.

Our Admissions Department is delighted to welcome you to our beautiful campus for personal tours during the week and we also host Open Mornings in both the Autumn and Spring Term.  If you are unable to visit in person, we can arrange virtual meetings with our Headmaster, Director of Admissions and Head of Pre-Prep.

We offer taster days and assessments for children from Reception to Year 8 and also ask for recent school reports and a reference from a child’s current setting.  For places in Nursery, these are offered subject to availability.

We are delighted to be able to offer a minibus to and from The Prep from September 2025 with various routes available.

Please contact Mrs. Clare Harrison and Mrs. TJ Richards, at admissions@theprep.org.uk, or via the online enquiry form. Please give your phone number so we can call you back.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Clare Harrison and TJ Richards.

How do admissions work at The Prep?

Admissions are guided by our friendly, supportive team who help families understand entry points, availability and next steps. Children can join at various ages, and we ensure the process is warm, informative and child centred.

Open Mornings take place termly, or you are very welcome to come for a private tour.

To progress with an application, we ask that you complete the application form and provide the £100 registration fee. For Reception entry and above, a taster day or assessment will be arranged. The School will also request recent reports and a reference from the child’s current educational setting. On receipt of an offer, if a space is available, a payment of a £750 deposit is required to secure the place.

How do I start the admissions process?

It’s simple. Just get in touch with our Admissions Team, who will guide you through each step—from arranging a visit, booking a place at our Open Day, arranging a taster day to completing your registration. We are here to help, so no question is too small.

Can I visit the school?

Absolutely—seeing the School in action is the best way to get a feel for our community. We offer individual tours as well as open mornings throughout the year. You will meet staff, see our classrooms and get a sense of the warm, nurturing atmosphere our pupils enjoy every day.

When should parents apply to The Prep?

Parents are encouraged to apply as early as possible. Applications are accepted all year, but places in Nursery are allocated subject to availability and higher year groups require a taster day and are dependent upon available space.

What ages can children join The Prep?

Children can join The Prep from age 2 to 13 and we welcome new pupils at a range of entry points throughout the School depending on space. Children begin their journey in our Pre-Prep (Nursery to Year 2) and continue on through the Prep School (Year 3 to Year 8) until they’re ready to move to their next school. If you are unsure about the best time for your child to join, our team is happy to advise.

Do you offer places mid year?

Where space allows, yes. Families sometimes need to move schools unexpectedly, and we do our best to accommodate mid‑year admissions. Please contact us to find out what places are currently available.

What support do you offer to help children settle in?

A lot! We know starting a new school can feel like a big step, so we take time to help every child feel comfortable. From buddy systems to gentle transition visits, our staff ensure pupils settle quickly and happily.

Are there entry assessments at The Prep?

Yes, but it’s friendly and age appropriate. Children applying for Reception to Year 8 complete taster days and in some instances assessments as part of the admissions process. Assessments help us understand each child’s needs and ensure we can support them academically and socially. For younger children, this may simply involve spending time with our teachers in a relaxed, play based setting. Nursery places are offered subject to availability and do not typically require assessment.

What is your catchment area?

Although some families come from further afield, the majority of families live within a few miles of The Prep in Sevenoaks, ensuring a strong community feel at the School.
