Pre-Prep Curriculum

Reception

Welcome to Reception at Sevenoaks Pre-Prep, where the adventure of full-time school begins for our enthusiastic learners aged 4 and 5.

For many children, Reception marks their first experience of formal education, but at The Prep, it is simply the next step in their seamless journey from our Kindergarten class. Most of our Reception pupils join us from our Nursery and Kindergarten, already familiar with the environment, teachers and routines, making for a smooth transition. They transition effortlessly into the classrooms adjacent to Kindergarten, maintaining access to our beautiful outdoor areas where learning continues to flourish.

While many pupils come from our Nursery and Kindergarten, we also welcome new pupils into Reception, inviting them to a taster day to ensure they feel comfortable and confident before officially joining our vibrant community.

In Reception, children embark on the final stage of the Early Years Curriculum, preparing them with the skills and knowledge they need for Year 1 and beyond.  Alongside our dedicated class teachers, children receive specialist instruction in music, outdoor adventures, computing, art, swimming, PE and games, enriching their educational experience and fostering a love for learning.

Beyond the school day, a plethora of after-school activities are available for children to explore their interests and talents, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.  Our Online Journal keeps parents involved in their child’s education, providing a window into their daily learning experiences.

A typical Reception day begins between 8.15am and 8.30am, culminating at 3.15pm. To accommodate busy schedules, we offer wraparound care, including Breakfast Club from 7.30am to 8.15am, Late Stay from 3.15pm to 4.00pm (for families with siblings in Years 3-8 at The Prep) and Little Oaks from 3.45pm to 6.00pm.

As children progress into Years 1 and 2, we continue to foster their love for learning through a creative curriculum approach that builds on the enjoyment and enthusiasm cultivated in the early years.  With a dedicated team of educators committed to providing the best education for every child, Sevenoaks Pre-Prep is a place where students thrive, grow and succeed.

Join us at Sevenoaks Pre-Prep, where every child’s journey is celebrated, and every day is filled with endless opportunities for learning, growth and adventure.

Key Stage 1: Years 1 and 2

Welcome to Years 1 and 2 at Sevenoaks Pre-Prep, where our pupils aged 5 to 7 embark on an enriching journey of discovery, growth and academic achievement.

In Years 1 and 2, we build upon the enjoyment and enthusiasm for learning fostered in the early years, providing a holistic educational experience that prepares our students for the challenges ahead. While following the National Curriculum, we employ a creative curriculum approach that allows us to take the best elements of traditional teaching while encouraging imaginative thinking and exploration.

Continual assessment informs our teaching and learning, ensuring that every child receives the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential.  With a focus on key learning in English and Mathematics, we equip our students with the knowledge and skills to excel in reading, writing and numeracy.

Under the guidance of dedicated and highly skilled class teachers, children delve into a wide range of subjects, including mathematics, English, science, geography, history, religious education, and personal, social and health education. Our specialist teachers in music, outdoor adventures, art, PE, games, swimming and computing further enrich the curriculum, ensuring that high standards are achieved across all areas of study.

Outside the classroom, our students enjoy a variety of educational visits and visitors, enhancing their learning experiences and broadening their horizons. Plays, concerts and regular Forest Fun Outdoor Adventure sessions provide opportunities for creativity, expression and outdoor exploration.

Our co-curricular offerings provide additional avenues for exploration and growth, with a full timetable of after-school clubs ranging from sports and dance to music and Eco Club.  We understand that every child is unique, and our diverse range of activities ensures that there is something for everyone to enjoy.
