On the first day of the Summer term, Year 2 wrapped up their Seaside topic with a very blustery trip to Hastings to visit the aquarium and learn about the local culture of seaside living. The children enjoyed seeing the unique fishermen’s huts as they dodged showers to eat a delicious fish and chip lunch and managed a quick play on the beach, before heading back to school.
This week they have been using the sensory inspiration of the visit to write Sound Collector poems about the seaside, whilst it is alive and fresh in their minds.
Each learning experience begins with a hook day, which draws the children into the learning and sets the topic in context and, where possible, ends with a trip, visit or focus time to reflect on all that they have learnt over the previous weeks. Our Hastings trip was a wonderful way to finish our ‘Seaside’ topic.
