What is the Social Entrepreneurs Project?
The Social Entrepreneurs Project (SEP) is a groundbreaking initiative that was developed at Sevenoaks Prep seven years ago. It is a scheme which seeks to combine enterprise education with social responsibility, by encouraging pupils to set up and develop their own small businesses with profits going to help support the charity HopeHIV in their work amongst AIDS orphans in Africa.
The pupils are encouraged to work in much the same way as traditional business entrepreneurs, using initiative, creativity and all resources at their disposal to exploit the market they have identified. In groups, pairs or as individuals, the children are encouraged to put together simple business plans, keep accounts and document the progress they make. The project has been sponsored for the last 5 years by the Amherst Rotary Club who donate £10 to each child in Form 8.
The children are supported along the way by a team of local entrepreneurs, and old boys with first hand knowledge of running their own businesses. This year Form 8 will be supported by The Vine Magazine Team, Allan Churchman from Amherst Rotary and local business men and old boys of the school Stuart Wallinger (Sevenoaks Art Shop) and Miles Coleman (Milo's Barbers).
